Grandma’s Gingerbread

MY MOTHER WOULD MAKE GINGERBREAD QUITE OFTEN. SHE ALWAYS SERVED IT WARM WITH WHIPPED CREAM.  OVER THE YEARS, I’VE FOUND THAT IT’S REALLY GOOD WITH BUTTER – WHILE IT’S WARM.


Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup shortening
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • ⅓ cup molasses
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients together. Pour into a greased 8" baking dish.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
